Tony La Russa supports Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration law

Tony La Russa, manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, has stated  that he supports the new law in Arizona that allows police officers to question immigrants over their legal status.

“…states should take care of what the federal government’s not taking care of. That’s their responsibility,” noted La Russa.

Many athletes have voiced their opinion on the matter, refusing to play in Arizona.

There are currently five players on the Cardinals’ team that were not born in the United States.

Albert Pujols, who was raised in the Dominican Republic and who plays first base on the team did not wish to comment on the Arizona law, saying, “…don’t talk to me about that. It’s not my business.”

The anti-illegal immigration law, which is set to take effect on July 29 unless otherwise stopped, allows the state to take matters into its own hands when it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants.

Civil rights activists and immigration attorneys are fighting for the rights of those being affected by the law that they feel is inhumane.

The law also calls for businesses to stop hiring illegal immigrants or they will face charges. Those who are for the law believe that immigrants who do not have employment visas should not be taking valuable jobs away from  residents or citizens.

Without a work visa, immigrants cannot get hired legally but many businesses choose to employ illegal aliens because of cheap labor. They are paid under the table in order to avoid declaring taxes.

Sentiments against immigrants in general are becoming increasingly negative as the weeks pass. Not only are illegal immigrants being targeted, but those who have a work visa, residency and even citizenship are becoming targets as well.
